Developer Electronic Arts has added new Evolutions to Ultimate Team as part of EA Sports FC 24's new Dynasties promo. The latest is the Rare Defender Upgrade Evolution, which allows players to take one of their Rare Gold defenders and give it an overall boost. It's not the most exciting Evolution EA Sports FC 24 has implemented yet, and it's worth noting it's not free. That makes it a little harder to recommend, but if you have some extra cash burning a hole in your pocket, it might be worth the purchase price. Below, you'll find out what you need to know to get the Evo, and where to find the best options.
What is the EAFC 24 Rare Defender Evolution upgrade?
Again, this is not an Evolution that everyone should run out and finish. It's pretty skippable, as it costs 150,000 coins or 750 FP points and doesn't provide much of a boost. That being said, if you are looking to boost a Gold Card such as Joao Cancelo or Leon Goretzka, this is an easy way to do it. When selecting your players, here are the requirements to keep in mind:
Max Overall: 87
Max Pace: 83
Min Defending: 61
Max Defending: 85
Rarity: Rare
Once you've completed all the objectives, you'll get +2 Overall, +3 Passing, +3 Dribbling, +4 Defending, +4 Physical, +3 Speed, increase your player's Defensive Workrate to High, and add the Intercept+ PlayStyle.
The Best Players for the Rare Defender Evolution
There are a whole bunch of ways to use this Evolution, but there are a few that stand out from the crowd. Generally, you'll want to use it on a defender, but there are a few players who fit the bill and play an offensive role. To get you started, here are a few options for players who don't need previous Evos:
Joao Cancelo - Barcelona
William Saliba - Arsenal
Christopher Nkunku - Chelsea
Leon Goretzka - Bayern Munich
David Alaba - Real Madrid
Cancelo is probably the most popular option. He can play both wingback positions, which gives him some extra versatility. He also already has solid base stats, which makes him that much better. You'll want to look at players like Saliba and Alaba for other traditional defenders. While you can probably find better players on the market, these boosts give both of them great speed injections that make them incredible options for your center back position.
The coins could be worth it for Goretzka. His Team of the Week card with an added PlayStyle+ gives him a slight boost. This card is hovering around 45,000 Coins, so another boost could make him worth the money. Finally, as one of the better non-special attackers in the game, Nkunku is an intriguing option. Sure, the PlayStyle+ isn't perfect for a striker, but he could be useful at the top of the pitch, pulling some surprise steals from the opposing backline.
EA Sports FC 24 is available now for PlayStation, Xbox and PC. The Rare Defender expires on January 6th.
